2017 Southeastern Trial Runs Race Schedule:

March 18 and 19 – The Lake Martin 100 – 100 Mile and 50 Mile Endurance Trail Races and 27 Mile Fun Run. Russell Crossroads, Alabama, 10 miles east of Alexander City on Lake Martin, one of America’s most beautiful lakes.

April 8 – Race 1- The Tranquility Trail Race – 3 mile and 6 mile – Race will start at 8:00 a.m.
First race of the Southeastern Trail Series at Oak Mountain State Park. The race will start and end at the Redbud Pavilion on Tranquility Road, near the BMX track. The race will follow a fairly easy 3 mile loop around Tranquility Lake on the Yellow, White and Cabin Trails. An aid station will be located at the Start /Finish area at mile 3.

Second race of the Southeastern Trail Series. The race will start at the Cedar Pavilion at the East end of Double Oak Lake, the swimming and canoeing lake. The 50K and 12 Hour races will start at 7:00 AM, the 10K at 8:00 AM. 100% of Race Proceeds go to Camp Smile-A-Mile or the Seven Summits Foundation to help rebuild schools in villages devastated by the April 25th, 7.8 Magnitude  Earthquake that hit Nepal leaving 3.5 million people homeless. May 27 – Race 3 – Memorial Day Trail Race – 6 and 12 mile Trail Race – Race will start at 8:00 AM. The third Trail Series Race will also be held at Oak Mountain State Park and will start at the Red Bud Pavilion located on Tranquility Rd. The course will be on a 6 mile loop climbing to the top of Double Oak Mountain. The 12 mile will be two loops of the course. This race was originally planned to be a 7 and 14 mile race but the planned course is significantly more difficult than the previous race courses so I decided 6 and 12 miles was enough. There will be only oneaid station at the start and finish. Runners MUST carry enough water to run 6 miles.

July 15 – Race 4 – Hotter ‘N Hell Trail Race – 9 Mile and 18 Mile Race – Race will start at 8:00 AM.
The fourth of the Southeastern Trail Series Races. The run will start at the Cedar Pavilion and consist of a nine mile and an 18 mile race run on a 9 mile loop. There will be two aid stations per lap. One AS will be located at the Start/Finish and mile nine. Another will be located at about mile 4.6 and on the second lap at mile 13.6. Runners MUST carry enough water to run 4.5 miles in extremely hot conditions because it probably will be Hotter N’ Hell. This is Great Training!

August 26 – Race 5 – Ridge to Blazing Ridge Trail Race – 8:00 AM – Oak Mountain State Park. Race 5 of the Trail Series will have a 10 Mile and 20 Mile option. The route will be challenging with a climb up the Yellow /White Connector and a trip down to Lower Peavine Falls creek and back out of the Peavine Falls gorge. Again it will be hot so be prepared to carry lots of water on the course. There will be an aid station located near Peavine Falls.

September 22, 22 & 24 – Race 6 – Birmingham Stage Race. All Stages start at 8:00 AM.
3 Mountain – 3 Day – 56 Miles or 2 Mountain – 2 Day – 37 Miles: Stage 1 Ruffner Mountain Park – 17.5 Miles, Stage 2, at Red Mountain Park – 16.5 Miles, Stage 3 at Oak Mtn. State Park – 22 miles

October 20 through 22 – The Endless Mile at Heardmont Park – The course will be all asphalt hiking trails in this beautiful park. We will start the 48 Hour race at either 7:00 AM or 6:00 PM, Friday, Oct 21st. More details to follow. Hurt at Heardmont is not a Points Race in the STS.

October 28 – BOO Run for Down syndrome – Race starts at 8:00 AM – 5K and 10K Races and 9:30 AM for the 1 Mile Fun Run. The BOO Run Run is a fundraiser for Down Syndrome Alabama with all proceeds going to DSA. This is going to be a fun event for the entire family. Check out all the activities on the website. The races will start at the Dogwood Pavilion. The 5K and 10K will circle Double Oak Lake (the swimming and canoeing lake) on the Lake Trail. The 10K will turn left at the Rattle Snake Ridge Trail and the 5 K will continue straight back to the Dogwood Pavilion and the finish.

December 9 & 10 – Race 7 – Blood Rock 100 & 50 Mile, 50K and 25K Trail Race – Oak Mountain State Park. Blood Rock will be the final event in the 2017 Southeastern Trail Series race schedule. The 100 and 50 mile races will start at 5:00 AM in the Cabins on Lake Tranquility. Points awarded toward the Points Championship for 2017 for the 100 mile, 50 mile and 50K will be the same. That is, all three races will have 32 Points available. This way, those competing for the overall points championship will not be penalized for running the shorter, 50K.
